The Theater Fair

The JAW fest is fast approaching and Portland Center Stage would like to invite your company to participate in The Theater Fair - the wildly popular (and fourth annual!) event for the theater community, theater patrons and the whole durn family.

This year's Theater Fair takes place on Saturday, July 25, beginning at 1 pm, in conjunction with the JAW Festival, on the Mezzanine of the Gerding Theater at the Armory, home of Portland Center Stage (128 NW Eleventh Avenue, between 10th and 11th Avenues at Davis). This year we plan to run the fair throughout the day (which is why it's great to have two company representatives to attend so that you can spell each other and experience all the goings-on) up until the evening reading at 8 pm—with a special Café Society social from 6-8 with live performance, music and comestibles - it'll be a Theater Fair-a-apalooza to Remember!

This is a red-letter day: so please save the date!!

The idea is a simple one: convene as many Portland-area theaters as possible in one highly visible place to cultivate new audiences, share upcoming seasons and celebrate the collaborative energy that makes Portland’s performance-scape so exceptional. Just stake out a table and you're ready to spend a jam-packed, amiable afternoon chatting with your colleagues and with audience members present and future. Simultaneously during the Fair, a bevy of specially commissioned site-specific pieces will be in progress in, around, and throughout the Armory.

As you probably remember, we had a fantastic time with the Fair the last three years. Last year more than 30 companies (including Action Adventure, Coho Productions, A.R.T., Milagro Theatre, Profile Theater, Portland Theater Works, Stumptown Stages, The Tragedies/Village Ballroom, Do Jump!, Staged!, New Century Players, Masque Alfresco, Sowelu, Portland Story Theater, Fever Theater, Sojourn Theater, PICA, Integrity Productions, Arts Equity, Home Planet Productions, Wordplay Theatre, Readers Repertory Theater, Oregon Children's Theater, Third Rail, Our Shoes Are Red/The Performance Lab, Broad Arts, Theater Vertigo, Oregon Cultural Trust, Portland Area Theater Alliance, Hand2Mouth and so on. . .) joined us on Davis Street for an outdoor extravaganza! This year promises more exchange, lively conversation and site-specific performative surprises.

To participate, we need just two things from you:

  1. Your RSVP. Contact Tim DuRoche at timd@pcs.org or at (503) 445-3794 as soon as possible to guarantee your space - we do anticipate running out of room this year.
  2. Your prompt appearance in the PCS main lobby by 12:30 pm on July 25, so that we can all be ready for the public by 1 pm.

Another option for you at the Fair is the ticket giveaway that happens during the event. As patrons arrive, they can fill out a mailing address form and put their names in a basket. Every 15 minutes, a member of a participating company will draw a name to win something from that company. If you are interested in donating tickets or other company-related items to the giveaway, please let us know that so you can be put on the schedule. You will have the opportunity to plug your season by microphone during the giveaway of your donated item.

We hope you will find this opportunity to meet and mingle with your audience and your peers fruitful as well as a whole lot of fun!
